GRAND PRIX CHALLENGE

Yet again the GP Challenge meeting proved to be closely contested and it ended with 3 new GP names filling the rostrum places and, on these displays, the trio of MICHAL SWIATEK, MICHAEL PLANT and SITIVENI CHAND look capable of competing at the highest level.

Behind them 3 riders tied on 10 points and so faced a run-off for the remaining 2 guaranteed places in next season's series.  ERLING TROELSEN and BOYD BEATON did what they needed to return to the GPs next year after showing definite signs of being able to mix it with the best riders in this season's series - Troelsen finishing 3rd in the American GP and Beaton 2nd in the Polish GP.

Immediately after the meeting the 2 Wild Card picks for next season were announced.  FRANKIE YOUNG scored 9 in the GP Challenge in addition to finishing 2nd in the UL averages, winning the Finland/Norway GP as a wild card and being crowned British Champion and there can be few complaints about his selection.  The final place goes to JERZY WIECZOREK who was first reserve for this season's series but impressed by finishing 3rd in the one round, where he replaced the injured Arne Karlsen, he rode in, leading Poland to 2nd in the World Pairs and topping the European averages with a figure of 10.49.
