POLISH GRAND PRIX

With a 15 point gap between 1st and 2nd overall and 8th holding a 6 point lead over 9th it felt like this Grand Prix was a case of finishing the job for the leading riders and it pretty much proved to be that way.

KENNI ALGREEN (ABERAVON GEMS) turned in a solid display to keep picking up the points he needed and his 2nd place in heat 13 confirmed that he was the 2022 World Champion.

He is joined on the final rostrum by ARNE KARLSEN (BIRMINGHAM BOURNVILLAINS), who won 6 out of 7 heats as he won the final round of the season in fine style, and RAY FRANCE (KING'S LYNN LIGHTNING), for who 11 points in the round proved enough to lift him back into the top 3, where he had spent most of the series.  You do have to feel some sympathy for Karlen who was forced to miss one of the rounds through injury, this was his third round victory and who knows what would have happened had he been close enough to put serious pressure on Algreen in the meeting?

RAFAL ARANOWSKI (READING REBELS) started the meeting in 3rd place overall and opened with a win but took a tumble in his sceond ride and couldn't pick himself up in time to stop France overtaking him on the rostrum so ends the series in 4th.  The top 4 will be joined as automatic qualifiers by PETR MARKO (BOTTESFORD BULLETS), LOUIS JOOSSENS (TWEEDSIDE TIGERS), LAURENCE CHAMBERLAIN (LANARKSHIRE LIONS) and FILLIPPE CHONG (NECRONS).  Marko and Joossens both had strong displays in his meeting as they finished 3rd and 4th repsectively.  Chong had to keep a wary eye on the chasing pack but, despite a wobble from him early in the meeting, nobody could close the gap to the final automatic qualification place and everyone else will now have to face the dreaded GP Challenge meeting.  BOYD BEATON (READING REBELS) will certainly go into that meeting full of confidence though after by far his best display of the series which saw him finish 2nd in the meeting and he'll be hungry to get on track and see if he can come back and repeat that sort of performance over a full season.
